Galleri Summer Exhibition (August 2018)

In the summer where I first explored abstract watercolours as a medium for the expression of deep feeling, I got wind of the theme of the summer exhibition:  Pencil on paper.  Not being a ‘real artist’, it had not occurred to consider my own work for inclusion in the exhibition.  But something was tugging at me.  Maybe I could make something that might have a chance to be included?  I decided to talk to the gallerist to see what she thought.  I did not want to insult the other artists by asking for my work to be considered alongside theirs.  I was completely astonished and overjoyed when she welcomed the idea I had in mind:  a fragment of the toromiro story, the moment where the heroine herself puts brush to paper, handwritten in pencil over just such a watercolour.  I would like to see your process, she advised.

And so on 3rd August 2018, this work was the first to appear in a gallery.
