Advent Calender (December 2019)

In December 2019, I found myself unexpectedly back in Grindstugan studio and was invited to participate in the Konstepidemin Advent Calendar series.  I was delighted, having adored advent calendars since my childhood. Over time, the performance grew out of the simple annual tradition from my English childhood, of writing a little to Father Christmas.  I wrote my hopes and dreams, my wishes and longings, hoping to thereby open a door for others to explore their own, however impossible they seemed…

Underlying the performance is an exploration of the clash of ontologies represented in the mundanity and misery reported by the Financial Times and the tender longings of the human heart.

This event took place in Bageriet at Konstepidemin on 16th December.

An aside:  My experience of advent calendars also taught me the influential value of mathematics since, when sharing one calendar with my two brothers, I found I could deploy algebra to calculate what starting day I should aim towards in order to be sure to be opening the door of the prestigious Day 24, magnanimously-seeming to go last of the three of us.
